Batch of spoons

October 11, 2012 Leave a comment

Here is another batch of summer spoons. Some got away early before I could snap pics. The top is Service berry and has a chipped carved handle. The right is cherry and has a deep bowl for serving soup or stew. On the left is buckthorn and finally the bottom spoon is again cherry. It fancies a textured bowl and flower carvings on the handle. Enjoy.

Buckthorn Scoop

My Buckthorn supply is running low.  In fact my entire collection of blanks is getting low.  This always happens as winter approaches.  I am not a fan of cold so the thought of treking out to find green wood wains as winter approaches.

I carved a tree into the handle of this scoop.  It turned out pretty good, but get lost a bit in the grain of the buckthorn.

Buckthorn and Box wood frog

September 13, 2011 Leave a comment

Here is another Frog based spoon.  I carved one like this several years ago and I liked the contrast in wood.  The frog is box wood that started as a square with a hole thru the middle.  The frog is then carved around the spoon allowing the legs to wrap around the handle.  The picture is pretty shabby as my camera is on its last hours of life.
